This course introduces the concept of Information Technology (IT) for the built environment, focusing on the management and enrichment of building information for enhanced automation and decision-making. The course will present advanced technologies and their potential for the construction industry, while emphasizing the existing challenges and encouraging innovative and critical thinking. Students will learn basic concepts in building informatics and semantics, including information management in construction, information types, information requirements, open standards for information management, and machine learning applications in the built environment. Through theoretical study and hands-on practice, topics such as IFC schema, Information Delivery Specifications (IDS), automated data extraction and processing, Semantic Enrichment (SE), and compliance checking will be introduced.
