תיאור

This type of activity is used to test students' knowledge (such as practice, quiz, test, etc.).

Introduction

A quiz is an activity that allows students to test their knowledge using different types of questions: multiple choice, matching, mathematical formulas, questions with a numerical answer, and more.

Possible / recommended applications:

  • To test the student's prior knowledge
  • To test the student's knowledge of self-study material
  • To test the student's knowledge after a group activity
  • To practice the study material
  • To practice in preparation for the test
  • To self-study by explaining the distractors
  • For self-assessment.

The quiz provides several options for the teacher's convenience:

  • You can define the number of attempts for each student: a single attempt, a limited number of attempts, or an unlimited number of attempts
  • Randomness: You can randomly assign questions from an existing question database, randomly arrange the questions within the quiz, randomly arrange the answers within the questions.

  • You can set a time limit for the test attempt

  • Access restriction: You can restrict other activities to students who did not pass / passed the test with a certain score

The Moodle system records the entire student's attempt.

We recommend using "closed" questions, thus allowing automatic grading. The results are calculated and displayed in real time. The grade is recorded in the course grade sheet.

The teacher can choose whether hints, feedback and correct answers will be displayed to students and if so, when and in what way they will be displayed.

Defining a quiz

Adding a test

1. Go to the main page of the course, activate editing and click "+ Add an activity or resource" in the desired learning unit.

2. A floating window will open in which you must select "Quiz" and click "Add".

"Quiz" button in the "Add an activity or resource" floating window has a pink test sheet icon

3. On the next page, fill in the fields for defining the quiz:

  • Name and description
  • Timing section: Opening and closing times, the amount of time allowed to complete the test, how to address answers that were filled in but not submitted by the test closing date...
  • Grade section: Address the number of attempts allowed (one, three, no limit...) and how the score is calculated (highest score, average, of the first attempt, of the last attempt...)
  • Layout of questions in the test: How many questions per page and whether the navigation is free or serial
  • Question behavior: Address the issue of shuffling questions within the test and the feedback mechanism in the questions
  • Review options: A very important section, which determines what types of feedback the student will see at each stage - during the attempt, immediately after the attempt, after finishing but the quiz is still open, and after the quiz is closed.
  • Overall feedback for the test: You can add a few general words that will be displayed at the end of the test.

4. When you are finished with the settings, save them.

Please note!!! If you duplicate a test, under no circumstances should you update or edit the questions that appear in the duplicated version. All questions must be removed from the duplicated test and new versions of the questions must be created. These are the original questions that appeared in the test from which you duplicated. Editing these questions changes the original questions in the original test!

Types of questions

The moodle system allows for the creation of different types of questions. The following link provides a complete list of all question types and explanations for each: https://docs.moodle.org/38/en/Question_types.

We have compiled here a number of particularly interesting and relevant question types with video explanations for your convenience:

שאלות רב-ברירה - Multiple Choice Questions: Multiple-choice questions, with one or more correct answers. Allows for a combination of text, images, etc.

שאלות נכון/לא נכון - True/False Questions: Questions that require a choice between the options "true" and "false". Only one answer is correct. Here too, images and media can be incorporated into the question.

שאלת חישוב פשוטה - Simple Calculated Question: Questions whose answer is the result of a calculation containing random variables.

שאלת חישוב - Calculated Question: A calculation question with random variables. The question allows for more flexibility compared to the simple calculation question.

שאלת רב ברירה חישובית - Calculated Multiple Choice Question: A multiple-choice question that contains variables, so the values are randomly drawn for each participant.

שאלת השלמה - Close Quiz Question: A completion question is particularly flexible, containing a variety of question types that can be combined together, including multiple-choice questions, short answers, and numerical answers.

תשובה קצרה - Short Answer Questions: The required answer is a word or short sentence, which is tested against a set of predefined answer options. A different score can be given to each version of the answer.

תשובה נומרית - Numerical Question: A numerical answer, when there is a possible range of error.
